We received a lovely testimonial from Dingo the clown after a gig we did together:
We just did a clown gig alongside HCoH, and they were perfect Portland style mellow minstrels. They would be great at any Portland themed event like a wedding. They play favorites (like "Blue Skies") and I love that these guys look like the music they play. Really swanky. They kept me sane while our zone was a fiasco. The most touching moment today was seeing an elderly person in a wheelchair, swaying while wearing and old school conical clown hat. Eyes shut experiencing the band playing a song featuring some gypsy fiddle. The music styles were antique and that was a perfect hit. If I had the funds, I would want to hire this band to play for those folks once a week.
Thanks Dingo! Check out the website for Dingo and his partner Olive at oliveanddingo.com.

audio page upgrade; new photo page
We made the audio page much easier to use, including players for each track, and access to the vault in a frame. There are a couple of recent shows in there too, including the one written up in Swing Portland dot com. The new photo page is just links to our albums on Facebook, and instructions to use the logo for promotional purposes.

Crystal Ballroom show 11/24!
We are thrilled to be participating in the Stumptown Speakeasy, a fine showcase of 7 bands! This 1920s/30s style event features bands, dancers, vendors, cocktail specials and more, all harkening back to one of the richest eras in our history. The Hot Club kicks it off at 4pm! Bands include:
Hot Club of Hawthorne playing "It Don't Mean a Thing" with Jeffree White, Andrew Alikhanov, Ben Blechman, James Delaney, & Tim Morgan at 23rd & Alberta Food Cart Lot. Thanks to Captured By Porches for having us. There was a superhero-themed event there concurrently -- hence the top hat!

great review of Press Club show
This fantastic testimonial came into our inbox the day after our July Press Club show:
"We would like to thank you and your combo for a totally delightful evening at the Press Club last night. We were just bubbling with tuneful energy the rest of the evening, and still today feel the pulse.
"One aspect of the music you created that particularly attracts us is this - that while you performed for the audience (and for each other, with warmth and pleasant melodic banter) you also conversed with the audience musically. You typically gave us the tune and the chords at the beginning, and along the way while you created your own flights of innovation within the context of the song's framework, you and your combo from time to time reminded us where you were (and thus where we were, if we were getting a bit lost). This is more than just good manners, it's communication, it's conversation, it's connection. To us, and I'm willing to guess that this is true also for many others who so thoroughly enjoyed the evening you created, this two-way stance, two-way engagement brings the music more personally to us. We feel part of the process (to the obvious point of dancing this time).
"So, to you, your violinist, bassist, and rhythm guitarist, thank you so much. Bravo for the quality of your performance and the conversation, the connection that made last night memorable."

other summer gigs
We're looking forward to some fun summer gigs outside of our usual Press Club 2nd Thursdays:
Alberta Beer Porch / food cart pod on Alberta & 23rd
We'll play a special show full of love songs and passionate instrumentals for the occasion, featuring special guest vocalist Natalia Burgess! Also in the lineup will be Flauren on violin and Jim Delaney on bass. The same lineup as our Valentine's Day show last year. :)

The performance series at Jam on Hawthorne is ending as of 2013. We want to thank Jam for hosting us twice a month for the past several months. We've had a lot of fun and learned a lot. The Hot Club played with many different lineups. And we made the most out of their fine PA system!
We have a few exciting prospects for gigs in the works for 2013...including dates at the venerable Press Club on January 31st, and Valentine's Day (special love song set)!
Where do you think the Hot Club of Hawthorne should play?

Jam on Hawthorne show news
Our ongoing shows at Jam on Hawthorne now start at 6pm, making it easier for everyone to attend. Jam is now booking gypsy jazz every Thursday! We still play 1st & 3rd Thursdays. Look for other bands such as Russell Gores' Hot Club Time Machine to alternate with us. We've been rotating the lineup and having a blast. There is so much talent in town! In the last few months we have featured new-to-us gypsy jammers
Natalia Burgess on vocals and mandolin
Joel Morrisette on mandolin
Jason Reichert on dobro/slide
Andrew Jones on bass
Dan Golden on bass
and playing in November is
Jim Bryan on accordion (and mandolin?)
Kevin Eastes on bass
We'll try to post personnel in the descriptions in the calendar (click on an event to show). Or just drop in to see who we have on any given 1st or 3rd Thursday!
We're playing as a quintet and will pep things up for the swing dancers!

Intergalactic Gold Party
couldn't fit the whole band in a photo!
We had an amazing time playing at the Intergalactic Gold Party! We had an extended 8-piece band, and we dressed up along with the gold theme. The crowd was amazing and they loved it! Thanks so much to hostess with the mostess Kris Hendrickson for having us! View pictures of the band here.
